A Guilt Free Weekend

IMG_1451

I thought it might be nice to write a follow up to this post where I lamented the mother guilt that seems to follow me around ALL THE TIME these days.

Last weekend I went to Melbourne with one of my best friends and while we were there we spent a day with another one of my best friends. I was so excited about the weekend but was also feeling that ever dreaded sense of guilt that comes with being a mother and spending time doing anything other than mothering. Well, I am happy to report that a wonderful weekend was had with virtually NO GUILT involved! My friends and I ate and drank and shopped and ate and drank a bit more. We walked (LOTS of walking – my friend has the FitBit data to prove it!) and talked and laughed and it was fantastic. I missed my darlings back home but I did not begrudge myself this weekend away. The moral to the story – feel the guilt and do it anyway!

Wow. That food looks amazing! Great photos. I love a weekend in Melbourne. Did you get new shoes or books? Im so pleased you had some time with friends. The Sweet Pea is going to be so proud of her mummy because youre looking after yourself.

I generally have to remind myself that I need to model the kind of person I want Evangeline to feel free to become – I don’t want her to see me so slavishly devoted to her that I never go out out with friends, have work of my own, my own interests, etc. etc .Seeing me work and have friends of my own is good for both of my kids! I’m so glad you enjoyed yourself – the food and drink look delightful!

I absolutely agree, the more time and energy we devote to ourselves, the more we have for those around us. My youngest has just flown the nest, and I am loving having lots of space, spreading out my book collection, reading, blogging, travelling, big fun!
